Bonang Matheba Once Again Shows Massive Support to Banyana Banyana

Bonang Matheba Once Again Shows Massive Support to Banyana Banyana. She is generally not a very vocal celebrity, but when the time to speak comes, Bonang Matheba doesn’t mince her words. The multi award winning media personality and entrepreneur has slammed the likes of Phil Mphela, Rea Gopane, and other people on Twitter for various reasons.
One person in particular who knows Bonang’s wrath is former Minister of Sports, Youth and Culture Nathi Mthethwa. After Banyana Banyana were crowned African Champions in July 2022, she put Mthethwa under massive pressure asking his ministry to reward the team accordingly or just reign from his post altogether.
The Confederation of African Football paid the South African Football Association R8.4 million in prize money for their win. On top of that, Banyana Banyana, received a whooping R5.8 million, from the then minister, Mthethwa. Because their male counterparts, Bafana Bafana get rewarded more, despite them not doing well, this felt like a slap on the face. A lot of people were not impressed including Bonang.
Banyana Banyana has made us proud once again as they have qualified for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup. The global tournament will be held in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July – 20 August 2023 and South Africans have been asked to rally behind the team with the slogan “South Africa, your support is our energy.
Bonang has joined in, and is behind the team 100%. She is excited that the team is competing at such a major tournament, and wishes for them to be paid accordingly.
Taking to Twitter, she said, “…banyana ba rona are going to the World Cup this year!!…I want to see wallets. Coins. Chelete. Geld. Zaaaakaaaaaa!!!“
