The Taxi Industry to Operate As Normal During the Planned National Shutdown
The Taxi Industry to Operate As Normal During the Planned National Shutdown. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), have announced a national shutdown on Monday, 20 March 2023. This is done to demand electricity and the resignation of President Cyril Ramaphosa.
On the day, all business and industrial activities will stop and all workers and students will stay at home. Already some of our celebrities have publicly shown their support for the shutdown. The likes of Ntsiki Mazwai and the Major League DJz have taken to Twitter to prove their allegiance.
The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) have stated that they will not be taking part in the planned national shutdown. SANTACO has just released a statement in which they revealed that a meeting was had with EFF leader Julius Malema last night. The outcome of the meeting is that taxis will run as normal on the day of the shutdown. The council however respects the decision of the EFF to embark on a national shutdown.
“The meeting was cordial and the views of both parties were respectfully welcomed,” reads part of the statement/
Before the meeting, Santaco had refused to participate in the EFF’s planned shutdown. Their reason was that the economy of the country is already messed up hence they don’t want to be adding more fuel to the fire.
