Key Responsibilities

The Dispensary Support role focuses on practical training under the supervision of a pharmacist. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and scheduled substances
  • Supporting compounding, preparation, and manipulation of non-sterile medicines following approved formulas and SOPs
  • Unpacking, merchandising stock, and maintaining dispensary and OTC shelf cleanliness
  • Learning to accurately interpret prescriptions while adhering to SAPC legal requirements
  • Picking, packing, labelling, and ensuring medications are checked and signed by a pharmacist
  • Managing stock control, including cleanliness, expiry dates, and organization of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines
  • Following up with patients on prescription tracking and appointments
  • Assisting with call centre scripts, patient service calls, and scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication
  • Reporting low stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager
  • Receiving dispensary stock according to company SOPs

Qualifications and Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must have:

  • Grade 12 / Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science, and an overall average of 50%
  • Completion of a proficiency test enabling application for registration with SAPC as a learner basic assistant
  • South African citizenship with a clear criminal and credit record

  • English and a second language proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking
  • Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Attention to detail, customer service focus, and problem-solving skills
  • Teamwork, accountability, professional conduct, honesty, and trustworthiness
  • Basic computer and numerical skills

Advantageous Experience

  • Retail FMCG or Dis-Chem front shop experience
  • Knowledge of drug, family planning, and complementary medicine
  • Experience with Unisolv, SAP, or E-Scripting systems
