Sad Note: Chef Lentswe Bhengu Passes Away. This is one of the most shocking celebrity deaths ever. Just the other day, 37-year old Lentswe Bhengu was on his Instagram, uploading his usual content, and now the nation gets to learn of his untimely passing.
From a statement posted on his social media pages by family, Chef Lentswe passed away on the 28th of February, at Sandton Medi-Clinic, where he was admitted. The statement further revealed that the celebrity chef, author and TV personality suffered a short illness, which he succumbed to.
The family have asked for privacy as they mourn their beloved son and brother. Details regarding his memorial service will be shared in due course.
Chef Bhengu started his journey in the food industry in 2010 enrolled at The Culinary Academy in the Cape Winelands. He later graduated as a professional chef underwritten by City & Guilds.
He has worked his way up in the food industry at fine dining restaurants like The Savoy Cabbage, The Roundhouse Restaurant, Saucisse Deli and a number of catering companies in and around Cape Town and Durban.
Lentswe’s entertainment credits include South Africa’s first food web series, Africa on a Plate. He traveled across the continent filming the series and provided online food content such as weekly recipes, videos and blogs for the site.
Through his talent and passion, Lentswe has bagged a number of TV shows. He presented a local television cooking show for Soweto TV, called Kasi Kitchen, and has also appeared regularly on SABC3’s Expresso as a guest chef.
In 2014, Chef Lentswe’s production house, Green Zebra Production was commissioned to produce a television version of “Africa on a Plate” for US Network, The Africa Channel, a fully commissioned 14-part Travel and Cooking Series.
In 2016 he replaced Donovan Goliath as the host of the second season of the BBC Lifestyle competition series, The Great South African Bake Off, and in 2017, Lentswe was the host of the advertiser-funded cooking reality series, Flava Queens, which aired on e.tv.
Lentswe also hosted Mzansi Magic cooking show, Celebrity Mystery Box, with the phenomenal Chef Nti, after the passing away of Chef Lesego. He was also recently part of the Metropolitan show We Start 2023 Stronger.
