Viewers Share Their Views As Idols SA Comes to An End. It is one of the most prominent talent search shows in the country. Sadly even something as great as Idols SA is bound to reach its expiry date at some point.
That time has come for Idols SA, and after 21 years, the hit talent search show will be bowing out of our screens. Idols SA has been renewed for a 19th season, which will be the showβs final season. If you have always fancied to be a South African idol, you still have one last chance to enter and audition for the show.
Idols SA started in 2002 on M-Net channel with Heinz Winkler winning the very first season. It became a simulcast show on M-Net and Mzansi Magic in 2013 from the 9th season, and a Mzansi Magic only show in 2016 from season 12 to date. Over the past years, it became one of the most loved shows on local TV, and most contestants went on to be absorbed in our entertainment industry.
In recent years though, the Idols SA fan base dramatically dropped. The winners are still struggling to penetrate the music industry, in fact, it’s those who didn’t win who are doing much better. Idols SA also let go of some of their judges, and it’s taking quite sometime for fans to warm up to new faces. No matter what the producers tried to do, it wasn’t that effective.
