The River to Air Farewell Season
The River to Air Farewell Season. Over the past few years, we have bid farewell to a number of hit TV shows. Among them The Throne, Isibaya, Isidingo, Rhythm City, and most recently, The Queen. In just a matter of months other much loved shows like Diep City and Imbewu will also come to an end.
Although this always comes as shocking news, after sometime, viewers get used to the tough fact, and end up enjoying new shows coming along. Will that be the same with The River. Phathu Makwarela has just announced on his Twitter account that this upcoming season will be the last for the multi-award winning telenovela.
The acclaimed local producer and scriptwriter co-owns Tshedza Pictures, an award-winning production company, with Gwydion Beynon. The company’s best work includes the creation of 1Magic’s telenovela, The River. Phathu always engages with his fans and followers, when it comes to anything relating with The River. This time though he shared the saddest news.
“Join us for our last season. The farewell season,” he announced.
Season 6 of the multi-award winning telenovela starts February 6th.
Season 5, which was filled with dramatic events is coming to an end this Friday. The season saw some of our favourite original cast members bid farewell to the telenovela. This includes Hlomla Dandala who played the iconic role of Zweli Dikana. On the finale episode of the season, curtains will also close on Lawrence Maleka.
Maleka played Zolani Dlamini, Lindiwe Dikana’s nephew and side kick. Together with his aunt Zolani took on the mining world, and eliminated anyone on the way. He will be shot by Mabutho, with a bullet that was meant for his aunt. On the same evening, Tango Ncetezo, who plays Paulina is also exiting The River.
