Claire Mawisa Reacts to Newzroom Afrika Using Somizi to Weigh In On a Recent Racial Incident. Media personalities and entertainers continue to enjoy so many opportunities in the media space. One such is Somizi, who has been on a variety of shows, from cooking, talent search, to romance shows.
Just like every other star, some people believe that Somizi’s versatility has limits. This came evident when Newzroom Afrika announced that they will be having him to weigh in on the Maselspoort Resort racism incident. The incident, which took place on Christmas day saw two black teens being manhandled by white men. This was apparently for swimming on an alleged only white pool at the Maselspoort Resort in Bloemfontein.
As expected the incident made trending news on both mainstream and social media. The public was left unimpressed by what took place, more so since, South Africa became democratic almost 30 years ago. They called on for the immediate arrest of the men, and wanted them to face the full wrath of the law. The three men have thus appeared in court on charges of attempted murder, common assault and crimen injuria.
Over a week later, Newzroom Afrika remains one of the news rooms still running with the story. They recently announced that Somizi will be weighing in on the Maselspoort Resort racial incident, on their channel. This did not sit well with some viewers, as they feel he is not the right man for the job.
One person who is not happy is fellow media personality Claire Mawisa. The award winning broadcaster took to Twitter, explaining her reasons for not going with Somizi. She stated that this isn’t specifically about Somizi, but about well known personalities that are often roped in on discussions way out of their orbit of expertise.
note, this isn't specifically about somizi, it's about well known personalities that are often roped in on discussions way out of their orbit of expertise. their voices don't move the conversation forward in any meaningful way. broadcasters must stop it, audiences deserve more.
