Toya Delazy on Beating the Odds and Finally Having a Family of Her Own

Toya Delazy on Beating the Odds and Finally Having a Family of Her Own. One of the most beautiful things to experience is a growing family. A couple of weeks ago, Toya Lelazy and Allison Chaig welcomed their first child, a baby girl. Judging by the content they share on their social media platforms, the couple is over the moon.

For Toya, this means the world to her, more so looking at how hopeless her situation seemed back in the day. The musician and Powerpuff Girl, lost her parents while she was still young and had to be raised by her grandparents. So having a family of her own, is such an achievement for someone who grew up an orphan.

Another thing about Toya is that she is a lesbian, something that normally hinders women to have children of their own. Lesbians are always ridiculed, judged, discriminated against and sadly a lot have been killed, just for their sexual orientation choices.

…….it is a privilege to be alive today and have a family of my own, this was a life I was told I could never have, as a orphan, a woman and someone who is part of a community that suffers from extreme hate crimes and judgements, due to religious indoctrination, and cultural erasure we are often used as scapegoats and are the black sheep of society and our homes. Many of my peers didn’t get to see their first baby and family because their lives were cut short by ignorance. Silly comments that become real swords of destruction that end lives – It happens way too often,” Toya said.

She further went on to state that, they too as lesbians have people that love them, that want to create a family with them, as well as have plans for the future with them. Toya also warned that when haters target queer family members they are cutting down family trees.

If we are given a chance to flourish through support, time and respect as other fellow humans you will see the beautiful and empowerment we bring, bringing families and nations together , writing new legacies…. So as young queer zulu, now francozulu parents , what I have learnt about life is all we need is to be loved and accepted to become great ❤️ no matter what shape or gender your couple comes in as long as there is love in it your children will prosper,” she added.
