Mamokgethi Phakeng Responds to Reports That She is Hospitalized Due to Stress. When it comes to education, she is one of our shinning movers and shakers. Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng has made a name for herself as one academic who is passionate about education and learners in this country.

Three months ago, the University of Cape Town vice-chancellor professor was recognized for her amazing dedication on education. She won the inaugural Africa Education Medal, which recognizes the work of changemakers who transform education on the continent. Phakeng was chosen from 10 other finalists from across the continent including former Tanzanian president, Jakaya Kikwete.

Sadly even though she does her job diligently, Professor Phakeng is always followed by controversy. She was recently criticized for taking a 5month break from her work by some social media users. They argued that this was such an embarrassment, since the University of Cape Town, continues its decline under Phakeng’s leadership. More bullets have been coming Phakeng’s way recently, and she manages to put them haters at bay.

News24 has published an article in which they state that the professor is admitted to hospital due to stress. They added that Phakeng is under increasing pressure after the UCT council voted to appoint an independent panel to probe allegations of misconduct against her and the council chair.

The University of Cape Town (UCT) announced that vice-chancellor Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng was admitted to hospital and given time off from her duties.

Phakeng is receiving medical attention and was given time to recuperate from stress,” the article reads.

Responding to the allegations, Phakeng shared a video of herself in a hospital bed enjoying a Magnum ice cream. Someone in the background asked her how the stress is going, and she just laughed and continued eating her ice cream.
