Kim Engelbrecht Bags Herself an International Emmy Award Nomination. This weeks is definitely a big one for our local sisters in the film industry. For one, The Woman King starring Thuso Mbedu has just been released and it is getting great reviews around the world.
A few days ago Blood Psalm series, which has a number of talented female actors dropped their first episode. The series stars the likes of Zikhona Sodlaka, Thando Thabethe, Enhle Mbali, Khanya Mkangisa and Bokang Phelane. The masses are also waiting for another upcoming film, Shaka Ilembe, which has phenomenal actresses such as Nomzamo Mbatha and Khabonina Qubekha.
Another actress who ha so many reason to celebrate is Kim Engelbrecht. The multi-award winning actress has been nominated for an international award. Kim has got an International Emmy award nod, for her lead role in Reyka. The iEmmys have been recognizing excellence in television produced outside of the U.S. for over 49 years.
According to a statement released by Showmax, “Reyka is the first African drama series to be nominated in more than a decade, and only the third ever, after Home Affairs in 2007 and 2008, and Sokhulu and Partners in 2009”.
The star studded series follows a flawed but brilliant criminal profiler, Reyka Gama, played by the talented Kim. Other talented actors cast in Reyka include Thando Thabethe, Nokuthula Mavuso, Iain Glen, Desmond Dube, Anna-Mart Van der Merve, Hamilton Dlamini, Kenneth Nkosi, Gerald Stein, Ian Roberts, Fiona Ramsey, David Butler, and Jessica Hayes.
