Diep City Comes to An End
Diep City Comes to An End. As they say, another one bites the dust. Diep City has joined the number of shows that continue to get cancelled despite doing so well.
On the 5th of April 2021, we got introduced to one of the most entertaining telenovelas to ever hit our screens. Set in Diepsloot, Diep City storyline centered around four young women from humble backgrounds who have been forced into crime while in high school, just to make ends meet. They are Nox, (Nozuko Ncayiyane), Sne (Nompumelelo Vilakazi), Asanda (Zikhona Bali) and Lerato (Kgaogelo Monama).
These four young ladies have been through it all, from being used to carry out hectic acts of crime, to coming together to create a business of their own. One thing about them, despite their differences, they always come together to do this life thing.
Other cast members include Dawn Thandeka King, Hamilton Dhlamini, Obed Baloyi, Vele Manenje, Chrispen Nyathi, Mzikayise Makroti, Luyanda Lungelo, Lebohang Mpyana, Moshine Mametja, Akhona Ndlovu, Phindile Thongo and many others. Along the way, the show also brought in talented actors such as Sonia Mbele, Zikhona Sodlaka, Nqobile Sipamla, TK Dlamini and Thobani Nzuzu.
The hit drama was a massive winner at the 2021 Royalty Soapie Awards, taking home seven gongs including Outstanding Daily Drama, just months after its premiere. It has been nominated for 10 South African Film and Television Awards this year, with the ceremony taking place next month. But sadly even good things do come to an end, and this includes Diep City.
After two successful seasons, Diep City which replaced Isibaya is bowing out. The show which is produced by the award-winning creator and director, Mandla N of Black Brain Productions will air its final episode on March 3 2023.
