Anele Mdoda On Why She Doesn’t Want Well Wishes This Women’s Day

Anele Mdoda On Why She Doesn’t Want Well Wishes This Women’s Day. Today marks a very important date in South Africa, Women’s Day. On 9 August 1956, 20 000 South African women marched to the Union Buildings to protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950, that required black people to carry a ‘pass’.

In 1994, after the first democratic elections, Women’s Day was first celebrated. The tradition to celebrate the day continued from then on to date. For some, it is more than just another public holiday, while for others, it is a day to remember the importance of women in the society. As we speak, social media platforms are filled with messages of those who honor this day.

Sadly, every single day, women in this country are faced with hectic challenges. There are financial challenges, domestic violence and so forth. Women are also being raped and murdered on a daily basis. Just almost two weeks ago, eight young women were gang raped by some men, while they were doing a music video shoot.

These are some of the things that make some people not see the point of celebrating Women’s Day. One of those is Anele Mdoda, who made it clear she doesn’t want to receive any well wishes on this day. The media personality states that women are going through the most in this country, hence she sees no point of honoring the day.

I wonder if the 8 women who got gang raped are having a happy women’s day? Please spare me any well wishes on this day. We as women are in hell. We are burning and men say it’s not that hot. I wonder how hot it has to get. Don’t wish me anything mna. Leave me alone,” Anele said.
