Wayde van Nierkerk All Cool After Being Told to Quit Athletics
Wayde van Nierkerk All Cool After Being Told to Quit Athletics. Even the best of champions sometimes have their bad seasons. And also with new talent coming up, one can’t always be at the top. Having noted that, we have all see Wayde van Nierkerk, at his best, and we know what he is capable of despite his recent performances.
The track and field sprinter is the current world and Olympic record holder which he broke in the Olympic finals. He also holds the world-best time in the 300 metres. At last year’s Tokyo Olympics, Van Niekerk failed to defend his title and crashed out of the semi-finals in Japan. He recently finished fifth in the 400m final at the World Athletics Championship in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday.
A day ago, Van Niekerk announced will not be representing the country at next week’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. This is because he had not run a qualifying time, or any 400m race in fact, before the cut-off date in June.
“For those who have interest in my next competitions: I was unfortunately not selected to represent South Africa at the Commonwealth Games this time around, so we shift our minds to the later part of the season and finish the season off healthy. Looking forward to putting in some good work. WE MOVING UP!!!!!!!” he shared on Twitter.
After he made the announcement, one social media trolled him, saying he should quit running altogether because he is a loser.
To which Van Niekerk calmly responded, “Homie went in hard…. nothing I haven’t said to myself already, but we keep moving forward my G.”
