Late Actress Busisiwe Lurayi Bags a SAFTA Nomination. On Monday South Africa woke to the saddest news ever of Busisiwe Lurayi‘s passing. According to a statement shared by her family, the actress passed away at her home on Sunday 10 July and was confirmed dead by medical personnel.
As much as this is too difficult to comprehend, the least anyone can do out there is to celebrate Busi’s amazing life. She was a talented actress, whose work spoke volumes before she could even utter a word. Busi is best known for her starring role as Phumzile on the SABC1 sitcom City Ses’la and its spin-off series Ses’Top La which premiered in 2012. She has also been on shows like, Sokhulu & Partners, Generations, Wild At Heart and medical drama series ER just to mention a few.
Because of her outstanding work, Busi has bagged some awards in the industry. She won The Golden Horn Award for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Comedy in 2006 and Golden Horn Award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy in 2011. This year, Busi has the opportunity to once again walk away with an award. She has just been nominated for a SAFTA under the Best Actress in a TV Comedy category. This is for her role as Tumi Sello, who is the black sheep of the family on Netflix comedy series, On How to Ruin Christmas.
Busi will be battling it out with Ashley De Lange who plays Rietjie in G.I.L. ,Shamilla Miller who plays Megan Markle in Comedy Mixtape, Julia Anastasopoulos who plays Tali Babes in Tali’s Baby Diary and Ilse-Lee Van Niekerk who plays Jessica Riekert in Troukoors.
The SAFTAs will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of September 2022 as a simulcast on SABC 3 and Mzansi Magic.
