“A Role I Prayed For,” Nambitha Ben-Mazwi on Playing Linda Bhengu. She has been consistent with bagging all the significant roles you can think of. Just recently Nambitha Ben-Mazwi joined the cast of Savage Beauty, Netflix’s latest African original.
The series is a about a young woman, Zinhle Selepe who seeks revenge against a powerful family, the Bhengus. The family matriarch and patriarch of the Bhengus, Grace and Don, rule their beauty empire and family with an iron fist, and are ruthless as they try to unmask an enemy who wants to see their life’s work reduced to ashes. Nambitha plays Linda Bhengu, who is Don’s daughter from his previous partner. She is the apple of his eye, but her step mom’s enemy.
Speaking about her role, the talented actress said it is something that she has been yearning for, for a long time. Nambitha believes, God is using her to represent a minority group that doesn’t have much representation through the role.
“A role that stretched me to areas I yearn for, a role I prayed for; a role that God used me in, to represent a minority group that deserves to have more of their stories told; a role that carried weight and responsibility of representation,” Nambitha said.
Apart from this being a role that resonates with Nambitha in many ways, she also set a record playing Linda. The role marks Nambitha’s 6th Netflix credit, making her the first South African actor to achieve this feat with the international streamer.
Among the Netflix shows he has been on include, Happiness Ever After a sequel of Happiness is a Four Letter Word, Black Mirror, How To Ruin Christmas: The Wedding, Diamond City and Dead Places. We can’t wait to see Nambitha bag more roles as well as get the recognition she so much deserves.
