Sad Note: Gospel Star Dr Deborah Fraser Passes on. The local entertainment industry mourns yet another talented star. Just a week after Gomora actor Siyabonga Zubane died, South Africa has received more tragic news.
Veteran Gospel star, Dr Deborah Fraser has sadly passed away, following a short Illness. According to a statement released on her social media pages, Dr Fraser passed on today (Sunday 15.05.2022) after midday, in the presence of her family and friends. Her cause of death hasn’t been shared yet, but it has been public knowledge that Fraser was recently bound to a wheelchair after some health complications.
The 56 year old, began her career in 1985 as a backing singer, and recorded her own album in 2000, titled Abanye Aayombona. The album has sold over 1 million copies. Her talent spoke for itself, and Fraser won major awards. She bagged the first SABC Crown Gospel Music award in the Best Female Artist category, among other awards SAMA for best gospel, Metro award for best gospel, and Kora for best gospel artist.
At the 23rd ceremony of South African Music Awards her album Uhambo was nominated for Best Traditional Faith Album.
Fraser claimed the title of Dr in October 2021, when she was honored by the Trinity International Bible University with a doctorate of Philosophy in the sacred space of music. She was married to Nigerian pastor Sockey Okeke.
