Brenda Fassie Documentary Film Gets Boycotted Before it Even Starts and Here is Why

Brenda Fassie Documentary Film Gets Boycotted Before it Even Starts and Here is Why. It looks like the much anticipated Brenda Fassie is finally coming to live. According to entertainment blogger, Phil Mphela, the doccie-film is coming to Netflix very soon.

This time around though, the excitement has fizzled out. Many people are not impressed that Brenda’s long time producer, Chicco Sello Twala is the man behind the documentary. It is no secret that Twala wasn’t supportive of the initial plan of Bongani Fassie to honor his late mother with a doccie-film. The songwriter and producer claimed that he has all the rights to Brenda’s music, which he produced and wrote. He said he was taking legal action to stop the release of any film made about her life.

Besides my company having the rights, I have never been consulted by anyone. I feel disrespected and undermined, especially being the one who has written and produced almost 75% of the late singer’s songs,” Twala told City Press then.

Two years later, Bongani took to Twitter revealing that they are working on the film, which was soon to be released. Although nothing much more was shared after that, it looks like his plan did not materialized. Now the reigns are on Twala’s hands who has partnered up with Netflix to tell Brenda’s story. But because of all the controversies he finds himself in, so many people have taken to Twitter to state that they will be boycotting the doccie-film.
