Vele Manenje on Finally Landing a Sangoma Role. She is one of the most versatile actresses we have in the country. Vele Manenje has played so many different roles, among them a single girl making all the wrong moves in Single Galz, an airport security officer named Princess, a shebeen queen on DiepCity as well as a teacher on Skeem Saam.
Because of her versatility and being multilingual, Vele is able to assume any role thrown her way. Having noted that though, the award winning actress and TV personality has had her reservations about playing a the role of a Sangoma or traditional healer. This is not because she can’t ace the role, its just that Vele was afraid of evoking spirits unknown to her.
Those days are gone, and Vele is more than excited over her new role as a sangoma. She has been cast to play Gogo Mnisi, on the new Netflix series called “Savage Beauty”. We definitely can’t wait to see her slay this role. Savage Beauty drops on the 12th of May and boasts a star studded cast, which includes among others Nthati Moshesh, Rosemary Zimu, Mpho Sebeng and Oros Mampofu.
“My entire career,Iv been afraid of doing sangoma/nyanga roles ,because Iv always been afraid of evoking spirits unknown to one’s self but then I realized that,that exactly what I do with each of my roles.”evoke a spirit until the soul comes alive,of a certain name ,surname and character background,” Vele said.
