A lot of people have feel that most of our local celebrities are now becoming Sangomas as a publicity stunt. This is because the number of celebs going this route is growing at an alarming rate, thus they get dismissed as attention seekers.
Just recently we saw celebrities such as Zodwa Wabantu, Dineo Ranaka, Toll Ass Mo, Mome Mahlangu, Masechaba Ndlovu announce that they have answered their ancestral calling. Using social media and reality TV shows, these individuals are not shy to share even the most intimate parts of their training. They are some of the personalities who got criticized a lot, more so, by how public they go about their trainings.
Another celebrity who can attest that this is not an easy journey is Brenda Ngxoli. The multi award winning actress and TV personality became a Sangoma seven years ago, and it has been such a roller coaster ride. Although she was accepted by many people including her family and people from her village, it was a different story for Brenda in the cities.
