Creator of the Hlomu Series Books Dudu Busani-Dube Opens Up About Her Mental Health Struggles

Creator of the Hlomu Series Books Dudu Busani-Dube Opens Up About Her Mental Health Struggles. One thing about mental health issues, you can’t always tell if a person is going through something. It is often the ones who laugh the most, the ones we envy, the ones who seem to have it all together and the successful ones, dying inside. They often don’t get the chance to overcome their issues properly because no one is really paying attention.

A growing number of our local celebs have come forth to openly speak about their mental health issues. The likes of Lasizwe Dambuza, Penny Lebyane, Dawn Thandeka King, Bonnie Mbuli and Sonia Mbele are among those who at some point in their lives went through issues like clinical depression and intense stress.

Another celebrity who has just opened up about her mental health struggles is Dudu Busani-Dube. After her therapist convinced her that she is an influencer, Dudu decided to use that to teach people that mental health issues affect just anyone regardless of their status. The Hlomu Series Books author revealed that she spent 21 days in a mental health institution. She was admitted on the 22nd December 2021 and discharged on the 12th January 2022.

During her stay at the institution, Dudu states that shut out many people who wanted to reach out. She enjoyed being in an enclosed space with people who were as mentally unstable as she was. The great thing is that, she even made friends. Dudu now invites anyone with such issues to reach out to her.

I’m ready and okay with talking about mental illness, in fact I’m ready to be an ‘influencer’ on that subject (my therapist will probably laugh at the ‘influencer’ part). DM me. We’re dying young, gifted and black. And we are taking our own lives,” she said.
