Shauwn Mkhize Shares Powerful Lessons on Tax. As someone who has had a rough relationship with SARS, Shauwn Mkhize, definitely has some wisdom to share. Just a year ago, SARS successfully obtained a final liquidation order against Mkhize’s company, Zikhulise Cleaning, Maintenance and Transport, indicating that it owed a whopping R204 million in unpaid taxes.
The flamboyant businesswoman and reality TV star, has used her social media influence to teach her 1.8million followers about tax. According to Ma’Mkhize as he is affectionately known, one of the lessons she has learnt in business is due diligence.
” As much I may entrust the experience of experts but as a business owner it is important to understand the in’s and outs of your business operations,” she said.
The lessons she has learns from her tribulations with the taxman have taught her a lot that she would love to share with her followers.
“Tax lesson #1: when you donate with the secondary intent to claim a tax benefit, please make sure that the institution you’re donating to complies with section 18A of the income tax act and keep records of all donations.
I always say If you don’t know something, there is no shame in asking. Let’s normalize engaging on even the sore topics and not wait for the last minute. Everyday is an opportunity to learn and be better than we were yesterday,” Shauwn said.
The following day she continued with another lesson which touches on the importance of adhering to the tax law.
“Tax lesson #2: no matter who you are, the basis of tax remains the same – its about RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP. Its on each of us to play an active role in always ensuring we are compliant with the tax laws of the land. To them no matter how obvious the expense is, if the money came out from your account to the third party to them without a paperwork to back it they will disallow it!!!!!!
By the way guys if you missed the deadline to file your personal tax returns this week…you have another week to file,” she advised.
We are definitely waiting for more lessons in the next coming days!
