Nambitha Ben-Mazwi Shares Her Hopes for Dark-Skinned Actresses
Nambitha Ben-Mazwi Shares Her Hopes for Dark-Skinned Actresses. Most of the time when the colorism debate pops up in the entertainment industry, many state that those who have fair skin get more opportunities. Be it as actresses, media personalities or ambassadorship gigs, light-skinned women with perfect figures, seem to be the preferred type.
This has sadly left many with no choice, but to bleach their skin. Times are changing now, and we see a lot of dark-skinned women get the recognition that they deserve. At the moment the likes of Thuso Mbedu, Ama Qamata, Zozibini Tunzi among others, take over the world with their melanin popping. They are an inspiration to young girls out there, that your complexion has nothing to do with you achieving your dreams.
Another personality who has not let the issue of colorism affect her is Nambitha Ben-Mazwi. The talented actress who keeps on bagging major role after another, is one of the best currently making wave in South Africa and beyond. She is part of the cast on Happiness Ever After which is the much talked about sequel of Happiness is a Four Letter. As congratulatory messages over her new role pour in, Nambitha is grateful of the love, but there is one more thing that she wishes could happen.
Although here an there, there is progress, Nambitha still wants to see more dark-skinned women, with natural hair take on lead roles. She wold also love to see young girls feel their beauty reflected through actresses as herself.
“My hope has always been for the world to see a dark skin, natural and woolied hair woman, portrayed leading in her glory, and for young girls to see their beauty reflected back through me. I never expected such a response, and it’s truly brought me to tears,” Nambitha said.
