Whatever assignment he gets, Smash Afrika always delivers, and that is why the gigs keep on coming non stop. 1. Smash Afrika, real name Afrika Similo Mdutyulwa was born on the 31st of October 1988.
2. Hailing from Bloemfontein, Smash started his career on campus radio at Kovsie FM at the University of the Free State in 2009. He hosted the weekday dedication show in the evening. Later that year Smash started doing radio every day.
3. Smash made his name at YFM in 2013, beginning with co-hosting En Route 6 with Tholi B. He was later asked to host their first reality show “Ground Zero”. In 2015 he hosted his own show, Point of Order, which was on weekdays from 03h00 to 06h00.
4. As someone who has always wanted to be an actor, Smash’s dream came true when he made a guest appearance as a DJ in an episode of the e.tv drama series Hustle in 2016.
5. In 2017, he landed his biggest television gig to date, co-hosting Mzansi Magic Friday night music show Massive Music, which features artist interviews, studio performances and a weekly music chart.
6. The following year in 2018, Smash Afrika moved national radio to work for the iconic 5FM. He hosts 5Nights, weekdays 7-10pm where he is thriving and lending a voice to the youth of South Africa to this day.
7. Besides doing radio and TV, he counts events such as Rocking The Daisies, Homecoming Africa, Major League Gardens, Channel O’s 20th Birthday, Black Coffee’s Block Party, Fact Durban Rocks 2017, Amstel Boomtown and Sneaker Exchange as some of the events he has MC’d throughout his career.
8. Smash Afrika is also a businessman of note. He is the founder of African Urban Nights, affectionately known as A.U.N, an event created to celebrate African music, art, food and fashion in urban spaces. He is also co-founder of start-up fashion brand October Thirty First.
9. In 2020, Smash made one of the biggest and memorable decisions pf his life when he married his partner Kefiloe Mdutyulwa. Kefiloe is the daughter of veteran actress and TV host, Rami Chuene.
10. The couple welcomed their baby Kay a few months ago, and it is all joy around the household.
