5 Men Accused of Murdering Dumi Masilela Sentenced to Life Imprisonment. Although this won’t bring back his lost life, it brings so much comfort that justice has been served at the end of the day. Four years ago Dumi Masilela became a statistic when he lost his life during an attempted hijacking. He died from a bullet shot in the abdomen in August 2017 in Tembisa. He was shot on 2 August and died a day later, in the hospital.
Dumi was a musician and an actor best known for his role on Rhythm City. His untimely passing was not only a loss for his wife Simphiwe Ngema and family, but to the entire South Africa at large. It took 4 years for the murders to finally pay for the gruesome murder of Dumi.
The murderers are Bongani John Masombuka, 34, Sfundo Harrison Nkosi, 33, Khumbudzo Solomon Mukhuba, 27, Brian Makhubedu and Mashudu Malema, 31. Judge Papi Mosopa stated that although Accused 1 (Nkosi), 2 (Masombuka), 4 (Makhubedu) and 5 (Malema) made confessional statements, they later claimed to have done so under duress. Their claims of having admitted to the crime notwithstanding, they failed to provide witnesses to prove they were not behind the crimes.
