Yaya Mavundla Receives A New ID Number Identifying Her As Female
Yaya Mavundla Receives A New ID Number Identifying Her As Female. Finally she has won the battle that has been going on for such a long time. Yaya Mavundla has just received a new Identification number that identifies her as female. The transgender activist has had setbacks in getting gender amendment on her ID.
Transgender people in South Africa have to produce their parents certified ID copies for gender amendment on their IDs. For those that don’t have those documents like Yaya, they are sadly not able to get help. She continued to use Becoming reality show to air out her grievances
“If it means on the day of elections we are matching to Parliament, let it be. I want by the season finale of BECOMING every trans person’s application that is not processed to have been a priority, each person received feedback and all matters resolved.
I will be releasing a formal statement and calling out all Transgender people with unresolved issues with Home Affairs to come forward. Our lives can’t be made difficult by the @governmentza
offices that are meant to make them easy,” Yaya said in April.
Her wishes has now been granted, at it is all excitement for Yaya.
“My heart is almost full. Today I received my new ID number that identifies me as FEMALE. So much is about to happen for us Transgender people. We are one step closer, I encourage more trans people to go & apply.“
Becoming, which premiered in April 7 2020, is the first of its kind in Africa.
