Thuso Mbedu Bags A Major International Award Nomination
Thuso Mbedu Bags A Major International Award Nomination. It’s all excitement across the globe as the Black Reel Awards release their nomination list for 2021. The awards honors African-American film achievement in feature, independent and television films.
Even here in South Africa we have all the reasons to be excited about the Black Reel Awards. Our very own golden girl, Thuso Mbedu has bagged herself a nomination. The award winning actress is on the Outstanding TV Movie/Limited Series, Actor & Actress category. The category boasts Hollywood giants such as Chris Rock, Tessa Thompson, Dule Hill, Cynthia Erivo among others.
The nomination is for Thuso’s lead role Cora in The Underground Railroad Amazon series. Cora is a young woman who makes an amazing discovery during her attempt to break free from slavery in the deep south. This series has definitely earned her massive respect on the international scene. Among other things Thuso has been interviewed by the likes of Elle DeGeneres, Oprah Winfrey, Trevor Noah to mention just three.
This is not the first time Thuso got nominated for an international award. In 2017 and 2018, she was nominated consecutively for the Best Performance by an Actress award at the International Emmy Awards. These nominations were for her lead role Winnie, in the drama series Is’Thunzi.
Although she lost out on both occasions, we are quite confident that Thuso, who is also among the predictions for the Lead Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie Emmy award, is about to make the whole continent proud.
