Among other painful experiences, Zoleka was sexually abused as a child. Just like many victims, she had a lot of self-blame and anger, more of it towards herself. This led to drug and alcohol addiction that went on for a couple of years. Zoleka also battled luminal B cancer, which is a form of breast cancer.
Zoleka also tragically lost two of her children. Her daughter Zenani Mandela, lost her life in a car crash back in 2010. She was only 13 years old. A year later, her son Zenawe Zibuyile sadly passed away in 2011 at infancy. In 2020, Zoleka lost her mother Zindzi Mandela, who was her pillar of strength all these years of pain. Although she has been through it all, Zoleka lives a positive life, and is the best mother to her other kids. She constantly shares motivational posts, and this year marks 11 years since she became sober.
