Katlego Maboe Removed From The SAFTAs Nomination List
Katlego Maboe Removed From The SAFTAs Nomination List. A few weeks ago, it was all excitement when the 2021 South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) nomination list was unveiled. Personalities like Bonang Matheba, Sindi Dlathu, Presley Chweneyagae, Menzi Ngubane, Meshack Mavuso, Lawrence Maleka, Petronella Tshuma, Shoki Mmola, Masasa Mbangeni, Zola Nombona, Mothusi Magano and Mapula Mafole made the cut in this year’s nomination list.
There was one nomination however, that got people talking, and that was of Katlego Maboe. The television personality was nominated in the Best TV Presenter category against Devi Sankaree Govender, Dineo Ranaka, Palesa Tembe, Katchie Nzama and Waldimar Pelser. Unfortunately for him, his nomination has just been withdrawn following public outcry over abuse allegations hanging over him.
“After careful deliberation of concerns raised regarding the nomination of Mr.Katlego Maboe in the Best TV Presenter Public Vote Category, announced on Thursday, 29 April 2021, the SAFTA’s jury has decided to rescind his nomination,” the Saftas said in a short statement.
Maboe who was one of the major news-makers of 2020 finds himself trending once again. His fans feel that it is not fair to remove him from the nomination list just because of his personal problems. Maboe’s SAFTAs dilemma adds on to his career problems, which includes being removed from The Expresso Morning Show on SABC and getting ditched by Ousturance. It looks like the light at the end of the tunnel is a bit far fetched for now.
