Israel Matseke-Zulu Makes His Gomora Debut
Israel Matseke-Zulu Makes His Gomora Debut. The day that many have been waiting for is finally here. Israel Matseke-Zulu is making his highly anticipated Gomora debut. A few weeks ago, South Africa got to know that the legendary actor is coming back to the small screen. This brought so much excitement to viewers, more so since Israel is joining the much loved Mzansi Magic telenovela, Gomora.
Israel has been cast to play the role of Don, who was apparently involved with a very rich woman, who has now died. He is now struggling so he returns with his daughter to Gomora and will be a disruption. Back in the day, Don had relationship with Zodwa, (played by the talented Sannah Mchunu). The two former lovebirds had a son, Teddy who is played by the award winning Sicelo Buthelezi. Don left Zodwa for a rich woman, and is now back in Gomora since she has died.
The actor, poet, singer and dancer is a perfect example that one can turn their life around. From 1988 to 1994 he was involved in criminal activities. He was arrested for the first time at the tender age of 12 for crime. In 1996 Israel was sentenced to serve eight years in prison.
While serving his jail term he decided to form a theatre group called Abaqobi Drama Group. The first play that he wrote and directed, Hayi Kabi Magenge, had some of the inmates and the members of VSTC based in Alexandra.
In 1999, when he was released from prison, he got a chance to work for the Victory Sonqoba Theatre Company which is where he had the opportunity to audition for the award-winning SABC1 drama series Yizo Yizo.
He played the role of a gang leader in prison, and ended up recording a sound track with kwaito star Mandoza. Among so many roles, Israel is best known for playing GP in the SABC1 drama series Gaz’lam, from 2002-2005. We definitely can’t wait to see Israel do his thing on Gomora.
