“Universal Music Wants My Blood,” Simphiwe Dana
“Universal Music Wants My Blood,”Simphiwe Dana. When you venture into the music industry, you have to be prepared to fight for the most part of your career. If it isn’t promoters, or fans, you also have to deal with recording companies which most of the time swindle artists. Record labels like Ambitiouz Records, TS Records, Family Tree as well as 999, have all in the past been dragged by some of their artists over some serious allegations.
Universal Music has just entered the list after one of their artist opened up about how she has bee treated. The artist in question is none other than Simphiwe Dana. Back in 2019, the duo entered into a partnership, which Simphiwe revealed when she celebrated her birthday. The contract did not only enable her to deliver a stellar album, the two parties will also did a separate partnership where Simphiwe was supposed to identify, develop and groom new artists.
“I’m happy to say on my birthday that I have finally signed that contract which took me months and months to negotiate. I also have some other surprises for you in store,” Simphiwe announced back then.
Well, it looks like the relationship has turned sour. The award wining musician ad actress jut took to Twitter to call out Universal Music. According to her, the record company did her bad after she asked to be let go from the contract. Universal apparently got scared of how much money they have spent on Simphiwe, as opposed to how much money she has spent on herself.
Just like many artists out there, Simphiwe is not impressed by how record labels exploit artists. Apparently Universal Music wants her to give them her past albums, whereas they failed to market her current album, Bamako. She went on to say that both she and Universal Music will meet in court. To show that she is confident about her case, Simphiwe even urged the record company to bring their best lawyers.
