Levels! Viola Davis Excited To Star Alongside Thuso Mbedu In An Upcoming Project
Levels! Viola Davis Excited To Star Alongside Thuso Mbedu In An Upcoming Project. Talk about a gone girl! 2021 is without a doubt Thuso Mbedu’s year. After making such a big impact locally, she is now taking over the international scene.
Just the other day our golden girl was named the new face to watch by International Magazine. Thuso also made it among Young Black Hollywood Stars to Watch in 2021 by Essence Magazine. A few weeks ago, she celebrated her feature on The May 2021 issue of Vogue Magazine. The issue honors fashion icon, Giorgio Arman. Another US publication Elle Magazine has recently featured Thuso on their Hollywood Rising Star section.
The award winning actress’s star keep on shinning brighter and we are here for her wins. Thuso is currently the most talked about celebrity in SA since we are counting down to the forthcoming Amazon Prime Video series, The Underground Railroad. In the series, she plays the character of Cora Randall, a young woman who escapes the Georgia plantation where she has spent her entire life in bondage. Although this is a proud moment, we were never ready for Thuso’s next major project.
Thuso has just revealed that she has been cast alongside Hollywood giant, Viola Davis. The two talented women will star in The Woman King which is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The story follows Nanisca, General of the all-female military unit, and Nawi, an ambitious recruit, who together fought enemies who threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.
This is a dream come true for Thuso who once spoke about working with Viola in 2018 in an interview with radio personality Tbose. Seeing this coming to pass is an indication that dreams do come true. Our dreams are indeed valid.
“So this happened. Dreams do come true,” Thuso Mbedu shared on social media.
How does Viola feel about this project? “Very Excited,” she posted on Twitter. To show that real recognizes real, the multi-award winning America actress also spoke highly of Thuso.
“The depth and complexity of emotional life, her authentic beauty, and regalness is potent. We were mesmerized by Thuso Mbedu. We wanted Woman King / Nawi to be the vehicle to introduce her on the big screen” Viola said.
