Khanyi Mbau Weighs In On The Impact Of The Alcohol Ban
Khanyi Mbau Weighs In On The Impact Of The Alcohol Ban. On the 28th of December 2020, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country will go into lockdown level 3. Under adjusted lockdown level 3, the president said the sale of alcohol will not be permitted.
This was done, because the spread of Covid-19 was gathering speed, ad a lot of people were getting infected, while others unfortunately lost their lives. As expected, the adjustment came as a hard blow for many, as the festive season was in full swing. Another thing, it meant financial difficulties for those in the alcohol industry.
In recent years, a number of our celebrities ventured in the alcohol industry. The likes of Khanyi Mbau, Bonang Matheba, Kelly Khumalo, J Something, are among those who launched their alcohol beverages brands. How does the ongoing ban, affect those in the industry ad the nation at large?
The outspoken Khanyi, has been bold enough to share her views on the issue. The media personality started by applauding South Africans for spending new Year’s eve with no trauma cases reported in public hospitals. Khanyi credits this though to the presence of the law enforcement officers in the streets, as opposed to the alcohol ban.
She is concerned about those whose livelihoods depend on the alcohol industry. Khanyi urged the Government to open for at least a few days, so that those who work in the alcohol industry can earn a living and support their families.
