UK Approves COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine
UK Approves COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine. There might be light at the end of the tunnel after months of research. Back in June, scientists identified Dexamethasone, a cheap and widely-available drug that could help save lives of seriously ill covid-19 patients.
It looks like there is another breakthrough, the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid vaccine. The vaccine has received first major approval to roll-out from next week. The UK is the first western country to approve a Covid-19 vaccine, with its regulator clearing Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE’s shot.
The U.K. has ordered enough doses of the two-shot Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to immunize 20 million people. The companies also have deals to supply hundreds of millions of shots to Europe, the US, Japan and elsewhere. Hopefully the vaccine will find its way to Africa, where Covid-19 is also spreading at an alarming rate.
Even here in South Africa, the government is doing all it can to control the spread of Covid-19. Citizens are encouraged to use the COVID Alert SA app to protect themselves and loved ones. Statistics that were recorded on 01 December 792 299 of positive cases that have been recorded. 732 539 total recoveries have also been recorded. Unfortunately, we have lost 21 644 people to Covid-19. New cases recorded stand at 2 295.
