“I Did Not Die. I am Here,” Florence Masebe On Being Shot At More Than 40 Times 21 Years Ago. Our scars are a constant reminder of what we went through in life. If there is one celebrity who has been through a lot, but came out victorious, it has to be, Florence Masebe.
It has been 21 years since the veteran actress survived a shooting that almost ended her life. Florence had a series of operations to remove bullets and repair wounds, after her attacker fired between six and eight rounds at her car outside her Bramley Park home in Sandton on August 18.
According to reports at the time, Florence, who was an actress on Generations at the time, was allegedly on a hit list which included Sello Maake ka Ncube. Despite having to deal with the pain and fear, Florence’s then four year old daughter witnessed the horrific incident.
“There will come a time when I no longer remember what happened to me on this day in 1999. The scars are a beautiful reminder of what did not happen. I did not die. I am here. In a song for Amadou Diallo, @wyclef asks “Have you ever been shot 41 times?” My answer is Yes, SIR! And I did not die. I still play this song a lot?????? It’s been 21 years. In a few days my daughter turns 25. She saw me in a pool of my own blood in our driveway on August 18th 1999. No 4 year old should see that. My victory song is louder every year,” she said.
