Pick n Pay is seeking a Blockman to join their Longbeach Mall team. This full-time position offers a hands-on role in butchery, perfect for individuals who are passionate about meat preparation, customer service, and maintaining high hygiene standards. Key Responsibilities

• Operate all butchery equipment, including the bandsaw, safely and efficiently
• Report any defective equipment or utensils to the Butchery Manager
• Control, merchandise, and promote stock according to company procedures and standards
• Prepare and break various meat carcasses following laid-down specifications
• Debone cuts of meat and manufacture mince, sausage, and boerewors
• Monitor temperatures to maintain the cold chain and prevent wastage, shrinkage, or damages
• Handle customers professionally, providing courteous service
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of all butchery equipment and utensils
• Assist with receiving meat deliveries from suppliers
• Train staff on new products or lines as required

Qualifications and Requirements

• Grade 12 certificate
• Reside close to Longbeach Mall
• Compliance with medical criteria as per the OHS Act for butchery work
• Successful completion of numeracy screening assessments
• Customer-minded with strong teamwork skills
• Good communication skills, with the ability to listen and respond effectively
• Passion for meat products and urgency in completing tasks
• Ability to cut, manufacture, and produce various meat products, including loin chops and roasts (skill will be tested)
• Physically able to lift carcasses and containers of meat
• Comfortable working in a cold environment
