Nomzamo Mbatha On Understanding Mental Illness Better After Her Sister’s Suicide
Nomzamo Mbatha On Understanding Mental Illness Better After Her Sister’s Suicide. Quite often it takes tragedy for us to fully understand certain issues. This is the case with Nomzamo Mbatha who lost her younger sister Carla to suicide back in 2014.
Nomzamo has spoken about her loss a number of times over the years, more especially on the anniversary of Carla’s death and on birthdays. This time around though the actress and philanthropist is looking ate the bright side.
She dedicated an Instagram post to Carla, explaining the different emotions she has felt since her passing. “I have experienced many tragedies in my life. But the one that sucker punched me was finding my baby sister in our family garden after she had taken her own life… it is a heartbreak that I will never fully recover from but will always be in the process of healing from,” she said.
Like many people who have lost loved ones in this manner, Nomzamo felt guilt and shame. She spent time looking for the signs she missed…”why did I get on that flight the night before because if I was home the next morning she wouldn’t have gotten the chance to execute her plan.”
To help her heal, Nomzamo decided to turn her “fear and heartbreak into love. To understand better about her experience and suffering. That She succumbed to her illness and that she is at peace and is free from the pain of this world. That she knew I loved her. That my family loved her. That her friends loved her.”
