Liesl Mthombeni Shares A Throwback Story Detailing Personal Experience of Harassment. One thing about gender based violence and femicides, cases have always been there. Many women have at some point in their lives suffered at the hands of those they know, or just complete strangers. As women share their stories, Liesl Mthombeni has taken us back to a post that she made six years ago, about how she was constantly harassed in some parking lot.
Back in October 2020, the former Miss South Africa and radio personality shared her ordeal. In just a week, Liesl was harassed three times, at a parking lot. She was even insulted for refusing one man’s advances towards her. What’s even worse, Liesl couldn’t take up runs near her place, for fear of being sexually assaulted or even murdered. On the post, she called on leaders to take such issues with the seriousness they deserve.
Now with what is recently happening, Liesl is even more gutted. She is sad that women in South Africa are paying a hefty price just for existing. Liesl wants the perpetrators to be held accountable, and for women to live freely.

Another body is discovered. Another name is added to an agonizingly long list and another home is broken.
As news breaks of more lives taken across SA and we are once again told to “be cautious,” the weight of this grief turns into outrage. Women in South Africa should not have to pay for their right to walk, run, live, and breathe freely with their lives.
Stop telling women to shrink themselves to survive. Start holding the men who kill accountable.
