Applications Open For The Noni Gasa Fashion Design Bursary. The Noni Gasa Bursary offers one deserving student the chance to pursue a three-year diploma in fashion in 2020.

The Noni Gasa Bursary offers the unique opportunity to get more than just your tuition fees paid. With sponsorships from Woolworths, Rain, Elna and Deckle Edge, we will ensure that your living expenses are covered, too.

Total Sponsorship Value of Approximately R470 000

  • Tuition Fees for 3-Year Diploma at approximately R276 000 from Design Academy of Fashion
  • R5, 000 per month towards your Rent and Transportation
  • R1, 000 per month from Woolworths Foods
  • Unlimited data & Mifi device from Rain
  • Elna 240EX sewing machine & 664 overlock machine
  • Art kits from Deckle Edge
  • Sewing kit from Cape Town Sewing Centre

How To Apply

Your portfolio submission consists of three parts: a filled application form, a written essay and a design portfolio.

Please follow these steps:

1) DOWNLOAD or fill in the ONLINE APPLICATION FORM

2) Write and essay

We want to get to know you and what inspires you. Write a 300-400 word essay of your understanding and experience of fashion. 

The information in your essay is reflective of your character and writing style. Include your background, passions and future goals. 

3) PORTFOLIO (ARTWORK)   Please submit  both the Mood board

(A)  and fashion illustrations

(B)  Originality, creativity and design aesthetic are valued. Your ability to clearly follow directions is a very important consideration.

A)MOOD BOARD

  • Create a mood board highlighting ONE seasonal fashion trend from 2019. It can be a menswear or womenswear trend. Name the trend, then write a short explanation about it, focusing on design details such as materials, colour, shape, print and pattern.  Show us who you are!  You can reference art, photography, street culture, icons, nature, technology and other forms of design that inspired this trend
  • FORMAT: Must be easily scanned, photographed or e-mailed.
  • You can view examples of mood boards here.
  • Now design your own based on a recent trend from 2019.

B)FASHION DESIGN ILLUSTRATIONS

  •  Submit 4-8 sketches of your original fashion designs on figures that you have hand drawn yourself. Do not trace or use a template for your figures.
  • Note: original artwork can be computer generated, if you wish.
  • Sketch your designs in colour. Use any medium of your choice (eg. pencil, ink, water colour, digital, etc.)
  • Design sketches are to be on full-length fashion figures with frontal views of each garment.
  • FORMAT: Must be easily scanned, photographed or e-mailed.
  • You can view examples of fashion illustrationshere.
  • Now create your own original designs!
