Candice Modiselle on Ways Hosts Can Accommodate the LGBTQI+ Community at Events. It goes without saying that more people are starting to accept the sexual orientation of others, and no longer judge them bases on their choices. Having noted that though, there is still more that needs to be done as pointed out by Candice Modiselle.
The talented actress and media personality stated that we should review how we address a large group of people. Often at times, when a speaker takes on the stage, they use identifications like ‘ladies and gentlemen, which is normally a general way of identifying a large group of people. According to Candice this is not inclusive enough as we live in a diverse world of people with different identities.
Having hosted several red carpet events herself, Candice is all about being inclusive when addressing a group of people. She urged MC’s, hosts, media personalities among others to start using phrases like, ‘Good morning everyone, Good morning attendees, participants and so forth.
“I initially shared this on my story but felt it equally important to share this reel. As an artist, storyteller, speaker, programmes director and essentially a voice, LANGUAGE MATTERS. Semantics matters. Representation matters and we need to be mindful of creating spaces of inclusivity in how we address our diverse audiences.
Time to adapt and unlearn the erasure of queer identities through language. It matters. THEY ALL matter,” Candice said.
