Here Is How Mohale’s Grandparents Addressed His Lobola Negotiations Issue
Here Is How Mohale’s Grandparents Addressed His Lobola Negotiations Issue. He did admit that bringing the issue up with his grandparents made him nervous. It is understandable because Mohale Motaung’s grandparents are from a different generation.
Mohale who is engaged to Somizi wanted to pick their brain on how his traditional ceremony is going to go like. In African tradition, normally the groom’s family give the bride’s family lobola, which can be in the form of cows, money or any other gift. So since this is a gay wedding, Mohale wanted to his grandparents to share their wisdom.
Although Mohale’s grandparents are aged, it was impressive how they looked at the issue. They started by explaining to him what happens culturally between a woman and a man’s family. Coming back to their grandson, they acknowledged it is a bit different. Instead of being judgemental, his grandfather told him to do things how they best see fit.
This definitely won the many people’s hearts, and some of them expressed their views on Twitter.
