Somizi Proud As His Mom Mary Mhlongo Receives The Order of Ikhamanga In Silver. This is a proud moment for both mom and son. Mary Mhlongo has just been bestowed with Order of Ikhamanga in silver. Somizi who accompanied his mother gushed over her achievement.
“Proud son. If I can achieve a quarter of what my mom has in the arts I would have made it,” he said. Mary was honored for her excellent contribution to the performing arts and creatively raising awareness on women’s health issues through storytelling.
Veteran performers Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Nomhle Nkonyeni were also honored with the National Order of Ikhamanga on the day. Yvonne was honored for her excellent contribution to the field of music and her general contribution to social cohesion whereas Nomhle was praised for her longevity and adaptability in the arts.
The Order of Ikhamanga is awarded to South African citizens who have excelled in the fields of arts, culture, literature, music, journalism or sport. For exceptional achievement, the Order is awarded in gold. It is awarded in silver for excellent achievement, and in bronze for outstanding achievement.
