Social Media Reacts to Liam Jacobs’ Return to the DA

Social Media Reacts to Liam Jacobs’ Return to the DA. When it comes to politics nothing is cast in stone. From leaders to party members, one can switch sides at any time. The recent politician to do so is Liam Jacobs who has just ditched the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and returned back to his first political home, the Democratic Alliance (DA).

A year ago, Jacobs, joined the PA to replace Kenny Kunene as a City of Johannesburg councillor. Before then, the politician served as a DA MP since the 2024 elections in the portfolio committee on sport, arts and culture. Now he has made the decision to go back to his former party, and stated his reasons for doing so.

Many will ask “why now?” and call me a flip-flopper. The truth is simpler: I should never have left the DA.

I believed the promises. I was misled, and I admit it. I made a mistake.

In June 2025 I left in a way that disrespected the organization that invested in my development, and I followed it with words that harmed the people who trusted me. My departure was disgraceful.

It was the DA that took a young activist from the Northern Cape, developed him in Gauteng, and seated him in the National Assembly at twenty-three. I owe that party an apology, and I offer it without conditions to its voters, leaders, reps, activists and staff. I do not expect forgiveness today. Trust is earned through action.

Inside the PA I saw behind the curtain: the people, the priorities. None of it matched my values. The DA is different. It holds the ANC to account in the GNU, in the streets and in the courts. It stopped the VAT hike. Last week it won a township ward in Emfuleni, proof that delivery beats slogans en lekker tye. It sees people as individuals to be judged on merit, not skin colour. It rejects cadre deployment, and it runs on elected structures and real debate, not one man’s whims
,” Liam explained.
