Sad Note: Media Personality Pearl Shongwe Passes Away. South Africa has once again lost a talented public figure. Pearl Shongwe, has sadly passed away at the age of 35. She was found dead apparently by her neighbors at her home in Polofields north of Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon.
Shongwe was apparently found lying on her bed face down, and no injuries were found. Although details are still sketchy, it appears that she might have died of natural causes. According to reports doing the rounds, the police are on the scene trying to establish the cause of her death
The media personality and news reader’s career kicked off in 2010 when she worked for youth radio station YFM as an entertainment reporter. After leaving the station, Pearl, got a job at Silverstar Casino as an MC. In 2011, she worked for SABC, as a sports news anchor. Pearl proved her versatility as she anchored the news on SABC’s 24-hour news channel as well as SABC’s radio broadcasting station, Metro FM, as a newsreader.
Shongwe also featured on the SABC 24hr News channel as a sports host on Sports Live. She moved on to co-host Morning Live on weekends alongside Simphiwe Ncongwane. At the time of her passing, Shongwe was currently on the Touchdown with Tbo Touch show on Metro FM, as well as presenter on SABC1 educational youth talk show, Daily Thetha. The Soweto born talent was also a Miss Soweto 2011 finalist.
