Lehlogonolo Machaba Makes History As The First Ever Miss South Africa Transgender Contestant

Lehlogonolo Machaba Makes History As The First Ever Miss South Africa Transgender Contestant. Tuesday evening it was all excitement as hopefuls who made it to Miss South Africa 2021 Top 30 were announced. Gauteng is leading the way with the most contestants in the Top 30. Miss SA officials say this year’s contestants include, two medical doctors, an attorney, a commercial pilot, an environmental specialist as well as models, graduates, and students.

The winner will take over from the current reigning queen Shudufhadzo Musida, who was crowned in October 2020. She will also join the amazing sisterhood which boast the likes of former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, TV mogul and first runner-up in Miss World 1994, Basetsana Kumalo, former Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Tebow, Miss Universe first runner-up Tamaryn Green, former Miss World Rolene Strauss and many others who made the country proud.

Making history among the contestants is the first transgender woman, Lehlogonolo Machaba from North West. She stated that she is doing this for all the marginalized people, the girls, gays and those who’ve always been told that they will never amount to anything. Machaba recently received her ID which reflects what she calls, “my real identity.”

I am proud to announce that I have OFFICIALLY made it to the #Top30 of #MissSA2021 thanks to all of you. This journey has been nothing but a great one and all of you have made this worthwhile. I am the first ever TRANSWOMAN to make it to top 30 and promise to advocate,” Machaba said.

Later this month, with the help of the public, the top 10 will be revealed. Miss South Africa 2021 pageant finale will take place in October 2021, on a date that is to be confirmed.
