Watch: Lira’s Beautiful Tribute To Winnie Madikizela Mandela. Ever since her passing, thousands of people from all corners of the world have expressed how much Mama Winnie meant to them. One of them is South African award winning artist Lira. She paid tribute to Mama Winnie with a song titled Born Free from Lira’s Born Free album.
“Inspired by a video I saw of her being interviewed about her experiences during apartheid. She went through so much trauma, abuse and torture and isolation but her face lit up when she spoke about how she was convinced that she would see a liberated South African in her lifetime. I am a product of this woman’s struggle and resilience and so many more like her. With love and gratitude I honor Mama Winnie Nomzamo Madikizela Mandela. Rest in power and peace,” Lira shared.
