Africa’s First ATM Pharmacy Set Up In Alexandra. Goodbye to long queues at clinics and hospitals. In partnership with private health companies and non-profit organizations, the Gauteng Health Department launched a pharmacy dispensing unit on Thursday.

This will cut patients’ waiting times at clinics as people wont have to wait around for hours just to get medication. The pharmacy dispensing unit is the first of its kind in Africa and the technology was developed with a team from Germany.

The pharmacy dispensing unit works like an ATM with skype-like audio visual interaction between patients and pharmacists. Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa says more ATM pharmacies will be rolled out across Gauteng in the next few months.
