1. Not getting it trimmed

For a lady who wants to grow her hair, it is necessary that you have your hair trimmed at the edges with each visit you make to the salon. This will help it not call out with the comb as you comb it and it will also help your hair look fuller and add volume. No one wants flat boring hair.

2. Washing your hair everyday

Even the fussiest people don’t do this. Doing this will cause your hair to become brittle and it will develop split ends. Give your hair a break in between every wash to recover and soak in the moisture from the water. Drying equipment we use on our heads also affects your hear as it thins out the hair and causes it to easily break.

3. Over heating your hair

Chances are if you blow dry your hair at least once a day for several minutes and you even follow that up with more hot stuff such as a curling or straightening iron, your hair will looks little fried. Only use heat products on your hair when necessary and when you do, make sure you use a heat protective product to help seal up the cuticle to keep the heat from damaging the strand.

4. Choosing the wrong type of products for your hair

Yes we all want the hair we see in the Head and Shoulders advertisement, but it doesn’t mean that everyone who uses their products will have the same results. For best results, look for a line of products that are designed specifically for your hair type and style. Do some research and ask a professional hair dresser what products would be suitable for your hair type.

5. Brushing your hair too much

The old advice about giving your hair one hundred strokes a night is not a recipe for healthy hair. While brushing once or twice a day is a great way to stimulate the scalp and distribute oil down the hair shaft, too much brushing could have the opposite effect—leaving hair more vulnerable to breakage.

6. Pulling out your grey hairs

You’re not really getting rid of them because it will grow back, and when it does it may be more wiry, and because it’ll be shorter, it’ll stick straight up till it grows in. Pulling out a couple isn’t going to kill you but if you find that they are growing too many at a time then you should consider dyeing your hair.

7. Do not go for head oil/powder massages

Avoid this if you are suffering from hair fall as this can lead to more root damage and hair fall. Also, most of the hair oils are only like an external conditioner and cannot get absorbed into the scalp.

8. Getting braids that are too tight

Getting braids that are so tight they make your eyes look Asian is not a good idea, yes the feeling of tight hair can get addictive but it has bad effect on your hair because it pulls the hair out from the roots. This is why it’s so difficult to grow back a hairline because it was destroyed from within and right below the skin.

9. Washing your hair with too hot water

Hot water dehydrates strands (just like skin), leading to dry, brittle hair that’s more prone to snap and fall out. We not saying wash your hair with cold water but at least take the temp down a few degrees.

10. Rubbing on wet hair

Brushing or combing hair while it’s wet then aggressively towel drying it is the correct recipe breaking hair. Be nice to your hair by minimizing post-wash brushing by combing before hair gets wet. Then, blot don’t rub hair with a soft towel after your shower.
