Listeners Accuse Tumi Morake Of Being Racist. Media personality Tumi Morake finds herself in a hot soup after speaking about how she feels regarding conversations surrounding culture. The conversation started after a concert in New Zealand featuring Steve Hofmeyr, who was one of the headline acts, was cancelled due to expat anger at his involvement.
They spoke to African-European Indaba founder Johan de Villiers and he said that what Hofmeyr represents is not what the majority of Afrikaans people in South Africa represent. Tumi Morake mentions she gets emotional about the way these conversations tend to go. She says that conversations that involve certain groups should leave her people out of it. Tumi says that this is about a group of people that Steve Hofmeyr represents and thus should not be about black people, as it would open another can of worms.
Some of the listeners were not impressed and accused her of being racist. Jacaranda FM’s GM Kevin Fine has since released a statement on this: ‘Jacaranda FM supports a non-racial society and does not condone hate speech in any form on its platform or in any part of our society.
