Up Close And Personal With Idols Top 16. The Judges made their call last Sunday as they announced this year’s Idols Top 16. It was not an easy decision to make as South Africa is blessed with talent. We have brought you the top 16 to help you make wise votes starting next Sunday. This Sunday at 17:00, these eight take centre stage.Check them out below.
1. Christo Daniels
21 year old Daniels second year Business Management student says music is the love that he can’t escape, and Idols is the stepping stone that he needs. He first tried his luck at the Joburg auditions, but did not make it past the preliminary rounds. When a chance presented itself through Telkom, in his hometown of Port Elizabeth, he grabbed it and made it count.
2. Phindile Dube
Phindile was one of the talented few who received a full panel of yeses from the judges. The 19 year old beauty from Amanzimtoti is a cover artist and hopes to make her audition city Durban and the entire KZN proud.
3. Mthokozisi Ndaba
From Durban is 25 year old Mthokozisi. Shortly after a successful audition in Durban, he was shot during a mugging. A true kasi guy from KwaMashu, his true grit saw him make it through to the Top 16. Now he’s ready to fight for the public vote.
4. Gabi Du Plessis
The 2nd youngest contestant is the charismatic Gabi. The 16 year old hails from Cape Town, where she auditioned. Her effervescent personality and self-confidence have seen her charm the judges, who praise her for being a “great performer” who will go far with the right kind of guidance.
5. Minenhle “Minnie” Ntuli
This 22 year old is determined to make this work. She is among the most consistent contestants. She is a final year Law student at UKZN. Minnie is from New Germany and counts Sibongile Khumalo and Lira among singers who inspire her.
6. Nomthandazo “Tee” Xaba
As young as she is, 18 year old Nomthandazo has talent in abundance. She aspires to be a triple threat as a singer, actress and dancer. She is studying Drama at UKZN.
7. Basetsana Kolwane
Basetsana is a19 year old from Klerksdorp. Her father was not keen on her juggling her studies as a second year HR student at UJ with Idols. When giving his yes, Randall said it’s time her dad hears what she is capable of.
8. Botlhale Phora
Botlhale is with out a doubt the best among the boys. The 21 year old is a full-time musician plays gigs for a living. The highlight of his career so far has been sharing a stage with Lira at the State Theatre. This is his first shot at Idols and he’s going for gold.
9. Gugulethu “Gugu” Zulu
Gugu is one of the voval power housed in the competition. The 24 year old is an actress, singer and songwriter. She lives in Honeydew and was shooting a musical film when she auditioned in Joburg. She studied acting at Howard College, UKZN, and says her mom is her biggest fan.
10. Blessed Mlangeni
Blessed might be the one to watch. The 23 year old was a member of JR’s winning choir in Clash of the Choirs, and she’s seriously taking Unathi advice to not hold back, as her Theatre Week performances proved.

After losing her voice in season 12, Thapelo is back with a bang. The 20 year old pushed through when the same thing threatened to happen again this season. Her determination, from the time she auditioned in Pretoria, has seen her make the Top 16.
13. Lindokuhle Sithole
One of the few guys in the competition is 21 year old Lindokuhle. Hewon the judges over with his voice and charisma. From Centurion, Pretoria, he’s more determined than ever to go all the way to the top after crashing out during Theatre Week in Season 12.
14. Nokuthula Makhoba
Se is a versatile artist. Among many things the 23 year old is a writer, author, playwright, poet and theatre practitioner. This creative from Eloffsdal, Pretoria, auditioned in her home city but was so nervous she almost turned back. Now she’s glad she didn’t.
15. Faith Msibi
25 year old Faith has a never die attitude. She first auditioned with her two sisters in Season 12. She gathered the courage to try again this season. The Witbank daughter of a pastor says she’s got her nerves in check this time and is ready to fight for her place in the spotlight.
16. Paxton Fielies
At 16 she is the youngest contestant on Idols SA this season. The teen from Bishops Lavis is a Grade 11 pupil and has the full backing of her family and school when it comes to pursuing her musical dream. Her impressive voice bowled over the judges when she auditioned to Tori Kelly’s Confetti, and she has not disappointed the judges since.
