Khaya Dlanga on How AKA Asked Him to Write His Autobiography Almost a Year Before His Passing

Khaya Dlanga on How AKA Asked Him to Write His Autobiography Almost a Year Before His Passing. This would have probably been one of the most beautiful things to remember Kiernan Forbes about. Unfortunately the autobiography plan did not materialize well in time.

Quite a number of our celebs have penned great autobiographies. The likes of Bonang Matheba, Somizi, Bonnie Mbuli, Basetsana Kumalo and Vatiswa Ndoro are among those who have put a part of their lives out there in the form of books. AKA, almost made the list, as he has been dying to have someone help him pen an autobiography.

Best-selling author and YouTube podcaster, has just taken to social media to reveal how AKA wanted him as the author of his autobiography. Khaya, recounted the moment when he bumped into the late multi-award winning rapper at the restaurant Sauk, in Cape Town, on February 11, 2022. AKA was adamant that Khaya was the right person to tell his life story in a biography titled “In (famous)”.

In his response, Khaya told AKA that he didn’t have the time. He also added that he is not a ghostwriter and doesn’t write about other people’s lives. AKA was not going to give up that easily, and tried convince him but, Khaya still insisted that he was not the right person for the job.

Two weeks after Riky Rick’s passing, AKA reached out to Khaya again.

I told you I would call you in the daytime so you wouldn’t think I was saying what I said because I had a few drinks. I meant it, especially now with the passing of Riky,” AKA said to Khaya

He also said AKA was specific about what he wanted the book to be about. He wanted it to cover coloured identity, and him being the first hip hop crossover artist, accepted by black, coloured, and white communities in South Africa. He also wanted the book to touch on him being a former St John’s student, a fact that many people weren’t aware of.

He passed on the 10th of Feb 2023. On the 11th of February 2022 he asked me to write a book about his life. Almost exactly a year to the day before he passed on, he asked me to write a book about his life.

I have been at a real loss for words over the last week and not really knowing how to make sense of it all. Here is a guy who had asked me to write a book about his life, “because you never know what could happen.”
